Thank you so much for these awesome canjoes! My son was amazed at the sound and the Halo themed Mountain Dew can....his favorite beverage and game! The electric box works great and delivers beautiful sound through the amp. He will be taking it to his bass guitar instructor to show off.

There has been quite a bit of confusion by the public who have encountered copycat versions of one-stringed instruments at various locations around the country lately. Seems that the copyrights and trademarks established nearly two decades ago by the CanJoe Company are ignored and infringed by those who don't care to unethically take the credit and the money they generate by selling their cheaply made look alike products. Most copycat items on the 'new' market don't even look alike when compared side by side with real deal CanJoe Company products but the majority public doesn't know any better. Many copies are made with cheap materials such as unfinished pine left raw and rough, the frets made from common staples and the tuner keys made from eye bolts with the cans being food grade bean cans or spam cans. Regardless that these cheap copies have no tone, are difficult to play and are musically inaccurate, they are also actually potentially dangerous for children as risk of splinters, staples, cuts from sharp edges, etc., being risk factors. One big example, "DollyWood" in Pigeon Forge, TN has a vendor selling many of these type products and the public buyers often are mislead to believe they are purchasing CanJoe Company products. Many often contact the CanJoe Company wanting more music tabs, repair work, etc. on or for their 'canjos' that they purchased there. Unfortunately, they get what they pay for but at a very inflated price. Please be aware that there is a MAJOR difference from the products the CanJoe Company offers verses any others.

Some recent comments from those who chose the CanJoe Company:
"I just got home from work and found a package containing a canjo. The workmanship is superb and I love the stain and color combination with the Coke can; better than my expectations. Thanks so much and I had no problems with the packaging.
Once I receive my invitation to play at the Grand Ol Opry, I'll send you a CD playing a few selections from your book!!"... Thanks again, John Malinowski (Jacksonville, FL)

"I borrowed a friend's "canjo" made by someone else and then called you to order one of my own. WOW!... What a difference! The totally cool "Throw Back" Mt Dew canjo you sent to me plays 'sa-weeet' and is 150% better quality than the junk I gladly gave back to my friend. You'll be getting some more orders from me, for sure!" ~ Marty Gordon (Hot Springs, Arkansas)

"AMOR SUSCIPE DATE": These Latin words translated are "LOVE RECEIVE GIVE" and came to me one morning in a mental image. During the Crusades, the Scots, Irish, and other Europeans who fought in those holy wars designed family crests to represent their families or clans. A motto and a symbol for each crest would also be created to represent their beliefs. An example is the O'Daniel family crest: "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES" as the motto which means "UNDER THIS SIGN WE CONQUER" and the crest image is of a Christian cross held at its base by a firmly gripped hand. In thinking about the Tour of Smiles, I began thinking about giving and receiving and about love. The image of the Christian cross as a 3 dimensional holograph appeared in my mind with the top of the cross bearing the word "love", the trans sectional bar (the cross bar) held the word "receive" and the supporting upright of the cross held the word "give". By my Christian belief, I then realized that God, Himself, being "LOVE" would be at the top. In order for us to RECEIVE Him requires Christ ("no man will see my Father except through Me") and we must also GIVE in order to receive as represented in the bottom, or base (foundation) holding up the cross. Therefore it is a continuum; "LOVE RECEIVE GIVE"; in order to RECEIVE love, we must GIVE love; to GIVE love is to RECEIVE love.

Comment on Obituary of Herschel R. Brown, originator of the canjoe by CanJoe*John

Herschel R. Brown was a dear friend and strong advocate of mine who helped me start the CanJoe Company. He supplied the parts that I first used to get the company started and he built a jig for me to use in my shop to help me assemble and to build all subsequent CanJoe Company instruments. Herschel and I collaborated on many instrument design changes and on ideas over the many years that we were friends. He and I shared our knowledge of woodworking and our common love of and our goals in getting canjoe instruments into the world market. He and I once collaborated on and supplied a medical mission to communist Cuba to "smuggle" 25 canjoe instruments into that country for use by kids with cancer. Herschel was always one of the first to always be updated or notified about any achievements in either the music industry or in the business I experienced concerning canjoes. He was one of my most vocal "cheerleaders" and he, himself, had several of my custom built instruments in his own collection. I spoke with him often on the phone and spoke with him several times during his illness with cancer. He strongly supported the developing "Tour of Smiles" and had agreed to be on the board of directors but his opportunity to be on the board was never to occur as he passed away just prior to seeing the official plans finalized. I attended Herschel's funeral and with great honor, I played "Wayfaring Stranger" on my canjoe at his funeral after giving my own brief eulogy of this wonderful friend at his service. Herschel will always be an inspiration to the Tour of Smiles and his friendship will forever be missed.

Hey Maria, bring some unique cans from Switzerland. I'll custom build your own canjoe from one. If you bring several, I'll make you a trade offer. Hope for you and Kurt a very uncanny New Year 2011!
