The “Bella-Jo”

A couple of years ago, in the fall of 2015, three young brothers and their mother flew from the state of Alaska to NE Tennessee in order to personally visit the workshop of CanJoe*John located in the town of Blountville. Their goal was to choose the cans and the materials for each of their own custom designed, hand crafted musical works of art. Below is a photo of their visit showing which cans each chose:

When after returning to their home in Alaska, their fine instruments were promptly created and ‘canpleted’ by the master craftsman of the original, authentic one-stringed musical instrument known commercially, world-wide, as the brand trade name, the CanJoe, personally designed and master crafted by the one and only, CanJoe*John. The instruments were then shipped and received by these very anxious and highly appreciative young fellows:

In late 2018, three years after the three Alaska boys gained possession of their instruments, they had a visit by their grandfather, Jim, from the state of Washington, USA mainland, and they introduced to him the wonderful experience of playing beautiful music on their custom created one-stringed canned musical instruments. Well, naturally, he fell in love with the ‘cancept’ and the beauty of their instruments, so he decided that he wanted one for himself. Being that each instrument created by CanJoe*John, proprietor of the original CanJoe Company, established 1994, are always custom created, only, their grandfather called to inquire the details for getting one made for himself.

Jim chose to have his personal instrument created from an exquisite piece of beautiful curly maple (a cast off material originally from the Gibson Guitar company), laminated with a finger board of the exotic South American purple heartwood. In memory of his beloved pet dog, “Bella“, Jim requested that a paw print taken from an actual casting of Bella’s paw be added to the instrument’s head stock. Jim also wanted a unique can on his instrument. He decided on a can from a winery out of Canada, so he procured the can and sent it with his order. As a personal upgrade, CanJoe*John voluntarily added three small diamonds into the finished instrument; the three diamonds imbedded as fret markers along the instrument’s side, denoting the primary key notes of the diatonic scale of the instrument’s fret pattern. Below are a few photographs of Jim’s finished instrument before it shipped out in September of 2018.
