"One string, One Can, One Man"

When those who are looking for extremely unique and very personalized CanJoe Company instruments, the first thing that must be considered when ordering is the choice of the can; the resonator, the “voice” of the instrument. There are obviously thousands of options to choose from and the best cans that provide the best sound, or tone, are from the modern aluminum beverage cans. Most any size aluminum can will work in making a nice instrument but the more common 12 ounce version is the most prolific source available and usually makes the best option for quality of sound and function. Choosing the can, though, is a matter of taste. It should reflect something very personal, very specific about the person who will own the instrument. Some people will choose a can, or brand, that is their favorite drink, or one that is a regional favorite, or ones like, such as, the “Bubba” cola can, for instance, that reflects their nick name, etc. In the CanJoe Company shop are stored many hundreds of unique cans; some very rare ones, and some that are highly collectible and/or are vintage cans. Some of the cans, too, are very valuable with price tags that can be surprisingly much higher than the common, over-the-counter ones. For example, some beer can or soda can collectors will pay dearly for rare cans that they would like to add to their collections. There are individual collectors that specialize in just beer cans, others that choose soda beverage cans, and even some who want vintage oil or gas cans. The more rare, the higher the value and also the price tags these collectors are willing to pay. One specific can that is no where else available in the world are the personalized “CanJoe*John” cans. Made specially by the Print On Can, Inc., a business that has now been closed for many years, these special cans sport the CanJoe Company slogan, “One String, One Can, One Man”, in reference to the first album ever produced in music history, “One String, One Can, One Man, and One Band”, featuring the one-stringed canjo musical instrument as the lead instrument and as performed by CanJoe*John on that CD’s debuted release as registered through BMI, from the year 2000. These cans were produced and printed by Print On Can, Inc in the year 2001, supplying a total of 20 cases. These now very limited edition cans were factory filled with water and show a cowboy image with a lasso to depict the “One String”; an image of a can with the logo of Print On Can, Inc to depict the “One Can”; and the trademark caricature of CanJoe*John to depict the “One Man”. Only a little less than one and a half cases remain available and are used only by special request and on the premium or on the higher levels of crafted instruments made. The photos shown below are of a fine, custom electric instrument made for a 28 year old musician named, Phil, and was ordered by his mother as a birthday gift.

About CanJoe*John

CanJoe*John began making and marketing the authentic 'canjoe' instruments from their origin. Introduced to them by their creator, Herschel R. Brown, in the early 1990s, John, from the beginning, helped Herschel manufacture them in Herschel's shop. John relocated back to his home state of TN in 1993 and continued, initially with Herschel's direct assistance, to make and market them, establishing the licensed sole proprietorship, the CanJoe Company, in 1994. As a professional musician CanJoe*John became billed as the "world's most unique musician, playing the world's most unique musical instrument, the canjoe" (aka, canjo). Always with his own personal canjoe instrument in hand he was awarded the adult "2007 Male Bluegrass Instrumentalist of the Year" by the North American Country Music Association International (NACMAI), and now having the distinction of being the first and only canjoe picker to ever perform on the Grand Ole Opry, has literally taken the one-stringed thing to the outer limits! CanJoe*John is a master craftsman and artist who designs, creates and crafts these instruments as custom works of musical fine art for those who respect and require the best of the best, truly genuine, original one-stringed musical instruments.
